There are four kinds of ego: 1) Spiritual Identifying with the knowledge of comparisons of your spiritual knowledge, behaviors, and status with those of others: superior leading to spiritual pride and inferior leading to spiritual shame. 2) Mental Identifying with the knowledge of comparisons of your mental knowledge, behaviors, and status with those of others: superior leading to intellectual pride and inferior leading to intellectual shame. 3) Social Identifying with the knowledge of comparisons of your social knowledge, behaviors, and status with those of others: superior leading to social pride and inferior leading to social shame. 4) Biological Identifying with the knowledge of comparisons of your physical knowledge, behaviors, and status with those of others: superior leading to physical pride and inferior leading to physical shame. The worst is spiritual ego. Why? Because those who think they are good are not open to the correction they need to accept in order to repent and give up their ego. But any kind of well-established and fortified ego means that person has little chance of making it. QUOTATIONS VARIOUS SOURCES "Is not virtue a negation of becoming?"--J.
